- During Admission: Students can opt for an MD-PhD program at the time of direct admission in MD MS program. In this case, they will be assigned a guide who is a qualified PhD supervisor.
- During MD MS Coursework: Candidates can express their interest in pursuing a PhD during their MD/MS studies. Their chosen research topic will be reviewed, and a decision will be made regarding the assignment of a PhD supervisor.
- After Completion of Master’s Degree: Students can opt to pursue a PhD after completing their MD/MS program.
Regulatory Issues and Other Matters
- No Change in MD/MS Structure: The initial three years of the program follow the standard MD/MS regulations.
- PhD Duration: The minimum duration for PhD after completing MD/MS is two years. This applies to students who register their PhD topic concurrently with their MD/MS program and continue immediately after completing their master’s degree. In this case, the MD/MS work can be considered as pilot research for the PhD. For students choosing a new research topic, a minimum of three years of full-time research is expected.
- Other Regulations: All other regulations pertaining to the PhD program will be similar to those for full-time PhD candidates.
- Coursework: Students may need to complete additional coursework in research methodology (RM) and academic writing if they haven’t received such training during their Direct Admission in Kmc Manipal program.
